The market of religious tourism in Western Europe is in the region of EUR 7,5 billion. Italy attracts 30% of this sector, being second only to France.
The flow of arrivals in Calabria in 2014 was 1,402 million, totalling approximately 7.762 million overnight stays. The percentage of tourists choosing this destination for religion inspired tours or visits is increasing constantly.
Having understood this trend, for the fourth year running the Calabria Region will host AUREA – la Borsa del Turismo Religioso e delle Aree Protette, organised with the precious collaboration of CEI (Conferenza Episcopale Italiana).
The event will therefore take place in Calabria from September 17th to 19th.
Having a privileged role in monitoring religious tourism, AUREA – now at its 10th edition- has become a unique and irreplaceable point of reference for the industry, interpreting the evolution of the sector and assisting the operators to understand new scenarios. This is why:
- It represents an aware and responsible tourism, which pays attention to match the religious values with the valorisation of the natural, cultural and historical patrimony of the destinations and religious locations.
- It suggests a new way to promote territories in order to satisfy the different needs of those who travel following their faith.
- It aims at matching tourism “businesses” and the market experts and operators, in order to elevate and orient the quality offer starting a cultural, religious and operative dialogue.
